Invite: Something should change

I'll be making some changes to the blog, so I invite you to stay tuned... Change is good you know?  Keeps a body on their toes. :)  In the meantime, let me tell you about a meal I had tonight and thoughts I had regarding it.

You know what we did today?

We made us a Korean meal to sum up a week of learning about Korea.  (particularly South Korea)

The result?

A great chicken recipe that I enjoyed so much that I said "OH, I like this chicken so much I want to invite someone over just so I can make it again!".  Honey Butter Chicken..YOU HAVE GOT TO TRY IT!!!   Seriously.. SO YUMMY!

When I stop to think about it, that's just the oddest statement.
Really, we are  quiet living family and don't have people over all that much, tending to prefer going out and meeting people than having them come in.

Therefore to have a meal that I enjoyed SO MUCH that I wanted to invite people over for it... well.. seriously.. it's food.  It's good, and it was REALLY good.  But still...it's just food.

I sit here and think... so God is better than food, God is better than a whole lot of things. God is awesome and amazing, and protecting and loving, and so mindful of me, why don't I get excited about having people over to talk about him?  To discuss the things of God that thrill me...like my taste buds were thrilled with the chicken?

Something amiss I think.

Hmm....   something should change eh?

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate over at Five Minute FridayWhat is Five Minute Friday?  Well it's a party of a group of like minded folks who gather on Friday to do a five minute free write around a singular word.  AND THEN (and this is the most important part) we take the time to offer up encouragement to each other on this writing journey.  It's fun, though it's not always easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won't you?  You are always welcome.

  1. Annette, you brought back a memory...when I was a postdoc I was assigned to work with a visiting scholar from Korea, Chin Ok Lee. We were structural engineers, and I was to teach him how to build the big concrete test specimens we would break in the lab.

One day I showed up with a terrible cold, and through our mutual lack of language he was able to tell me, "I'll be right back." Then he took off, still wearing his hard hat.

He returned with an enormous thermos, and ceremoniously poured out a cup of tea...ginseng tea whose smell alone could blister paint. He presented it to me, and said, "You drink."

I was able to get it down, though my eyes were watering. Chin Ok smiled, and gave me the thermos. "You drink."

I put the thermos in my wall locker, and said, "Yes, through the day."

"No. You make all drink. Now."

His manner was forceful, and in the interest of international relations, I agreed, and entered into what could only be called a culinary ordeal. At the end I was crying, and Chin Ok was patting my shoulder, saying what I assume was the equivalent of "There, there". Or it could have been, "You sissy!"

And two hours later, all of the cold symptoms were gone.

  3. Good thoughts - sometimes it is so hard to invite. But, when I do, it is always a sweet time of fellowship.
