Hymn Study: All Hail the Power of Jesus Name

This was a hymn sung in church this morning I thought I'd share with you. :)

Lyrics
All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget
the wormwood and the gall,
go spread your trophies at His feet,
and crown Him Lord of all.

Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Oh, that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all!

When I attended River of Life in Kitchener I learned to sing this hymn with a praise and worship band which totally through me off at first, but then I grew to like it.   So I thought I'd let you here this rendition as well.
This hymn was written by Edward Perronet, while he was serving as a missionary in India (some sources say, others don't). This hymn has been revised a number of times since it was written, to learn more check out this article. You can also see the original verses here.  Perronet was born in England, his father a pastor with The Church of England.   Even though he intended to follow his father's footsteps he ended up with the Wesleyan Church.  He served for a time with the Weslayan church before moving on to pastor in another congregation.  This hymn is often called the National Anthem of Christendom.

For those liking the more traditional approach to this hymn (and I like this method as well) here are the Marantha Singers.
